PROJECT MANAGEMENT
PROFESSIONAL

(PMP) TRACKS

Project Management Professional (PMP) Track for Distance Education Students

Project Management Professional (PMP) Track Online

The following details important information that the candidate need to know about the project management discipline.  The program preps for the Project Management Professional (Project Management Institute) exam or the CompTIA Project Plus Exam.

Project Management Professional Timelines (PMI):

Upon successful completion of training and all other (experience) requirements have been met, the following timeline applies for students taking the PMP certification with the Project Management Institute:

The Application will need to be submitted:  Window open 90 days

The Application will be reviewed for completeness:  5 business days (when application is submitted online)

Audit Process (if application is selected):  5 business days

Multiple-Choice Exam at an approved testing site/Examination Eligibility/1 year: (from the date of the application approval)

Upon being certified, the cycle is 3 years:  (from the date the exam is passed to obtain and report (Professional Development Unites ( PDUs) toward credential maintenance)

Applicant Payment Process /(exam cannot be scheduled until you submit payment of credential fees)

Project Management Professional Eligibility Requirements for PMP certification through PMI.

The PMP Role Delineation states that candidates for the PMP credential:

·         Perform their duties under general supervision and are responsible for all aspects of the project for the life of the project.  Lead and direct cross-functional teams to deliver projects within the constraints of schedule, budget, and scope; and

·         Demonstrate sufficient knowledge and experience to appropriately apply a methodology to projects that have reasonably well-defined project requirements and deliverables

MPORTANT:

To be eligible for the PMP credential, you must meet certain educational and professional experience requirements. All project management experience must have been accrued within the last eight consecutive years prior to your application submission.

Educational Background Project Management Experience

For an individual holding a high school diploma, or an associate’s degree or global, Equivalent, the individual must have a Minimum five years/60 months unique non-overlapping professional project management experience during which at least 7,500 hours were spent leading and directing project tasks; plus 35 contact hours of formal education

OR

An individual holding Bachelor’s degree or global equivalent, must have a minimum three years/36 months unique non-overlapping professional project management experience during which at least 4,500 hours were spent leading and directing project tasks; and 35 contact hours of formal education.

Documenting Experience for the Application

Use the experience verification section of the online application to document and report your experience leading and directing project tasks. Document projects individually regardless of the number of projects you document.

Project Management Experience -- Months

Each month in which you worked on multiple, overlapping projects counts as one month toward the total requirement. In the following example, the project manager worked on Project 1 and Project 2 simultaneously February–April. However, the time spent on both projects counts as three, not six, months toward the total to fulfill the professional project management experience requirement.

Number of Hours that You Led or Directed Project Tasks

Consider all of the projects that you have worked on and identify how many hours you led or directed project tasks. For this section of the application, if you worked on multiple projects at one time, all the hours spent leading and directing project tasks count toward the total.

Contact Hours of Project Management Education

Verify at least 35 contact hours of specific instruction that addressed learning objectives in project management. Document all education hours regardless of when they were accrued. The course work must be completed at the time you submit the application.

NOTE: One contact hour is equivalent to one actual hour (60 minutes) of training or instruction received.

The course hours may include content on project quality, project scope, project schedule, project budget, project communications, project risk, project procurement, and project integration management.

You can satisfy the educational requirements by demonstrating the successful completion of courses, workshops and training sessions offered by one or more of the following types of education providers:

·         PMI Registered Education Providers

·         PMI Component organizations

·         Employer/company-sponsored programs

·         Training companies or consultants

·         Distance-learning companies, including an end-of-course assessment

·         University/college academic and continuing education programs

NOTE: One hour of classroom instruction equals one contact hour. If you have completed a university or college course on project management that met for three hours per week for 15 weeks, you would document 45 contact hours. If only a portion of a course dealt with project management, only the hours spent on project management can be applied toward the total.

The following education does not satisfy the education requirements:

PMI chapter meetings

Self-directed learning (e.g., reading books, watching instructional videos or sessions

with coaches or mentors)

(If at least one hour of a chapter meeting is spent conducting a learning activity, the hour(s) spent in that activity can be counted towards the educational eligibility requirement.)

NOTE: While you may be able to document applicable classes that counted toward a bachelor's degree or MBA, you cannot document the degree program in its entirety because some classes within the program will not apply.

PMP Examination Information & Blueprint

The PMP examination is comprised of 200 multiple-choice questions. Of the 200 questions, 25 are considered pretest questions. Pretest questions do not affect the score and are used in examinations as an effective and legitimate way to test the validity of future examination questions. All questions are randomly placed throughout the examination.

Computer-based testing (CBT) is the standard method of administration for PMI examinations. Paper based testing (PBT) is available under limited circumstances (refer to the Examination Administration section in this handbook for more details).

The allotted time to complete the computer-based examination is four hours. The examination is preceded by a tutorial and followed by a survey, both of which are optional and both of which can take up to 15 minutes to complete. The time used to complete the tutorial and survey is not included in the examination time of four hours.

It may take some credential candidates less than the allotted four hours to complete the examination.

Item Development

MP examination questions:

are developed and independently validated by global work groups of PMP credential holders;

are referenced to current project management and project risk management titles which

include but are not limited to PMIs global standards;

are monitored through psychometric analysis; and

satisfy the test specifications of the Project Management Professional Examination Specification.

Examination Blueprint

The PMP examination is developed based on the PMP examination blueprint contained in the Project Management Professional Examination Specification. The examination blueprint details the percentage of questions contained in each project management process group. The following represents the percentage of questions in each domain that are included in the examination.

Domain Percentage of Questions

Initiation 11%

Planning 23%

Executing 27%

Monitoring and Controlling 21%

Closing 9%

Professional and Social Responsibility 9%

PMP Credential Fees

You must submit payment of the PMP credential fee as part of the payment process (if you submit an application online) or as part of the application process (if you submit a paper application).

You can submit payment by credit card using the online certification system or through postal mail to PMI if you chose to pay by check, money order or wire.

The proper fees for payment are determined by your PMI membership status and the examination delivery option (computer-based versus paper-based) for your geographic location. Refer to the Examination Administration section in this handbook to help you determine if computer-based delivery or paper-based delivery of the examination is most appropriate for you. Once you determine the examination delivery option, use the following o determine the credential fee.

Testing Fees:

Computer-based testing (CBT) member $405

Computer-based testing (CBT nonmember $555

Paper-based testing (PBT) member $250

Paper-based testing (PBT) nonmember $400

Reexamination CBT member $275

Reexamination CBT nonmember $375

Reexamination PBT member $150

Reexamination PBT nonmember $300

The PMI membership rate will apply only if you are a member of PMI in good standing at the time you submit payment for the credential. If you apply for membership right before you apply for the credential, make sure you receive confirmation of your membership before you pay for the credential.

If you are interested in becoming a member of PMI at the time you apply for the credential, you can submit your membership application and credential application at the same time and receive the membership rate. PMI membership applications are available online at www.PMI.org.

COMPTIA PROJECT + EXAM for students seeking certification through CompTIA

What is a CompTIA Project Plus Certificate?

CompTIA Project+ is a globally recognized project management certification that identifies qualified and quality project managers.

The CompTIA Project+ certification is an international, vendor-neutral certification that covers the entire project life cycle from initiation and planning through execution, acceptance, support and closure. CompTIA Project+ gives project managers the skills necessary to complete projects on time and within budget, and creates a common project management language among project team members.

A Computing Technology Industry Association Project Plus certification affirms a person's professional project management abilities. This certificate is ideal for IT students looking to get an edge in the hiring process or for working professionals who need credentials for employment advancement. Project management is essential to all businesses making these skills highly valued.

CDW requires CompTIA Project+ in certain positions, and it is recommended for project managers at Alltel, Dell, Ricoh and the U.S. Dept. of State.

Unlike some project management certifications, CompTIA Project+ can be earned quickly and cost-effectively. There are no prerequisites, and candidates are not required to submit an application or complete additional hours of continuing education.

Career Related Information

Reasons for Earning this Certificate:

Comptia.org reports that at least half of all workers with a ComptTIA Project + certification earn more in their job. They also find that they are better respected within their profession. This certification is recognized by employers and viewed as solid evidence of having the project management abilities needed.

Salary Information:

While there are many jobs that the CompTIA Project Plus T certification can be applied to, it is obvious the primary focus is that of project manager. A Level I Project Manager may earn up to $68,000 a year. A Project Manager Level III may earn up $91,000 annually.

SAP Business Objects

Business Objects Web Intelligence XI/R1/R2 (NE)

The need to access information in today’s information based society is critical.  Business intelligence is a way of exploring data to optimize business performance.  Business Objects launched the modern business intelligence (BI) industry more than 16 years ago with a simple but profound idea:  a “semantic layer” that would make it easy for nontechnical business users to access data from various databases and applications and create reports from their business systems without requiring programming help from the IT or IS department.  In the years since, BI has evolved far beyond this modest goal into a comprehensive set of technologies that are, organization by organization, changing the way the world does business.  Business Objects allows you to deploy a business intelligence environment that can be forever expanded and molded to foster continued innovation.

This training is targeted for users (in a business environment) who need to access and analyze corporate information using InfoView and Web Intelligence for reporting purposes.

Program Description:     This program focuses on teaching the professional the application of knowledge, coordinating changes to Business Objects, Web Intelligence Concepts, Web Intelligence core functionality, modifying document queries, working with query properties, manipulating data with query filters, modifying queries, document formatting and formatting charts.  This course also focuses on planning, coordinating, and implementing security measures to safeguard computer databases.
